open to girls aged 5 – 7 years old
We meet every Wednesday evening during term time in the main church hall from 5-6pm.
We follow the guiding programme of activities, challenge badges and trips out, all aimed at our age group. We also attend three church services a year, as we are a sponsored unit.
Each session has a theme when we are working towards one of our Roundabout badges. After about six weeks, we encourage the girls to make their Rainbow Promise and become a member of the group. At around age 7 to 7 ½ we help the girls make their transition up to Brownies, which also meets in the main hall (on Tuesday evenings).
Our Rainbows group is very popular and we often have to operate a waiting list for girls who wish to join us. If you’d like to join our group, please go to www.girlguiding.org.uk.Click on the ‘Parents’ section and go to the ‘register your daughter’ section of the website. When prompted to choose a unit, our Unit name is ‘6th Buxton’. We will then contact you when a space is available.
Brownies follow on from Rainbows in the Guiding organisation and meet at our church on a Tuesday evening during term time from 6-7:15pm.
Girls aged 7 to 10/11 years old can join Brownies.
Brownies often work in small groups called Sixes, led by a Sixer and a Seconder. These are mixed aged groups, named after woodland creatures. They work together as a unit especially when working towards challenges or interest badges.
Interest badges can also be earned individually at home, especially for activities such as gym, dance and swimming.
Often Brownies are able to attend days out and also weekends away called Brownie Pack Holidays.
Brownies often work with their leaders to plan their programme. Any time after their 10th birthday girls can make their transition up to Guides.
If you’d like your daughter to join our group, please go to www.girlguiding.org.uk and go to the ‘Parents’ section to register your daughter. When prompted to choose a unit, the unit name is ‘6th Buxton’. We will then contact you when we have a space.
Guides are girls aged 10 to 14 who are given the chance to explore their individual skills and abilities and try out new challenges as part of a team. Girls can get involved in anything from adventure sports to performing arts, travel and taking part in community action project
In the last year 6th Buxton Guides have heard famous pop acts at the Big Gig in Sheffield; been visited by various animals including an owl a meerkat and a snake; and camped with girls from around the world on the Isle of Man. They have learned vital skills including first aid, map reading and water rescue, tried various crafts, cooked healthy meals and chocolate treats and made new friends.
